The Young Messengers of Hawaii (Na Elele Opio Ko Hawaii Nei) Contest wanted to issue a book containing the winning essays from the contest. Students in grades 4 through 12 were asked to read former governor George Ariyoshi's book, Hawaii: The Past Fifty Years, The Next Fifty Years, and submit essays addressing the question: “What do you think needs to happen in the next 50 years for Hawai‘i to be the best place in the country to work and live?” The contest received more than 200 entries from across the state.

A Vision for the Future: Creative Solutions from Hawaii's Students was made available for the winning students' families and schools to purchase as a commemorative item and a learning resource for classrooms.

This type of book can be created with the Photo Legacy Package.
